Croatia Sailing Tours: What to Expect From a Sailing Holiday in Croatia

If you're looking for a different way to experience Croatia, a sailing holiday gives you the chance to see much more than you can from a single coastal town or resort.

Croatia's Dalmatian Coast is made for exploring by boat. Crystal-clear Adriatic water, historic island towns, beautiful beaches, local food and a different atmosphere in almost every destination make it one of Europe's best places to spend a week on the water.

But a Croatia sailing holiday isn't just about where you go. Who you travel with, how you spend your days and the type of experience you want can make a huge difference.

That's where Roam Sailing comes in.

What Are Croatia Sailing Tours?

Croatia sailing tours combine travelling between destinations by boat with the experience of exploring Croatia's coast and islands as part of a group.

Rather than staying in one location for your entire holiday, you spend the week travelling along the coast and between islands, waking up somewhere different and experiencing a variety of destinations.

A day might involve swimming in the Adriatic, exploring a historic town, enjoying lunch onboard, taking part in an adventure or simply relaxing on the boat. Later, you might head ashore for dinner, drinks or an evening exploring the destination.

It's the variety that makes sailing Croatia so different from a traditional holiday.

Roam Sailing's Croatia Sail Tours are 8-day experiences along Croatia's Dalmatian Coast, combining island hopping, swimming, local food, Croatian culture, adventure, relaxation, free time and nightlife.

Why Choose Croatia for a Sailing Holiday?

One of the biggest advantages of sailing Croatia is the ability to experience several destinations during one holiday.

Instead of unpacking and repacking every few days, your boat becomes your base while you explore the Croatian coast.

You can spend the morning in the water, arrive at a new destination during the day and then have the evening to experience the town.

The Croatian islands also offer an incredible variety of experiences. Some destinations are known for their historic streets and architecture, others for swimming, nature, restaurants or nightlife.

That means a Croatia sailing itinerary can give you a much broader experience of the country than staying in one resort.

Exploring the Dalmatian Coast

Roam Sailing's Croatia sailing itinerary includes some of the best-known destinations along the Dalmatian Coast.

The current itinerary includes Trogir, Makarska, Stari Grad, Hvar, Korčula, Mljet and Dubrovnik, with the route and activities subject to operational conditions.

Trogir is a historic coastal town and the current starting and finishing point for Roam Sailing's scheduled Croatia Sail Tours.

Makarska sits beneath the dramatic Biokovo mountain range and combines beaches, coastal scenery and a lively atmosphere.

Stari Grad, on the island of Hvar, offers a different side of the island, with its historic character and relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere.

Hvar is one of Croatia's best-known island destinations. It's famous for its beautiful harbour, historic streets, restaurants and nightlife, making it one of the highlights of a Croatia sailing holiday.

Korčula combines beautiful coastline with a historic old town and plenty of opportunities to explore.

Mljet provides a chance to experience a quieter and more natural side of Croatia.

And then there's Dubrovnik, one of the country's most recognisable destinations, where history, architecture, coastline and nightlife come together.

The purpose isn't simply to tick destinations off a list. It's about experiencing the different sides of Croatia throughout the week.

Is Roam Sailing a Party Tour?

No.

This is an important distinction.

Roam Sailing was created for travellers who wanted something different from the typical party-focused Croatia tour.

That doesn't mean we don't enjoy going out. We're in Croatia, and destinations such as Hvar and Dubrovnik have fantastic nightlife.

But drinking every night isn't the purpose of the holiday.

A Roam Sailing week could mean having cocktails and enjoying a night out in Hvar, followed by an early swim in the Adriatic the next morning. Another day could be spent exploring a historic town, trying an activity or simply relaxing on the boat.

The idea is to have fun without making partying the entire experience.

Adventure, relaxation, socialising, culture and nightlife can all exist in the same holiday.

That's the balance Roam Sailing was created to offer.

Who Are Roam Sailing Croatia Tours For?

Roam Sailing is designed for travellers in their 20s, 30s and 40s who want a social and adventurous holiday in Croatia without the typical party-tour atmosphere.

Age isn't a strict requirement. It's more about your approach to travel.

You might be travelling solo and want to meet people from around the world. You might be travelling with your partner or with friends.

What matters is that you enjoy discovering new places, meeting new people and trying new experiences, while still appreciating good food, downtime and the opportunity to explore Croatia properly.

It's for the traveller who might want to go out one night, spend the next afternoon swimming in the Adriatic and then wake up early for an adventure.

If that sounds like your kind of holiday, you're probably our kind of traveller.

What Is the Boat Like?

Although they're commonly referred to as Croatia sailing tours, Roam Sailing's experiences operate on spacious motorboats rather than traditional small sailing boats.

We made that choice deliberately.

Traditional small sailing boats can be great for a different type of sailing holiday, but we wanted to create an experience where a larger group could travel together without feeling like everyone was constantly on top of each other.

Our boats provide private ensuite cabins, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, an onboard chef, a private bar and bartender, dining areas, multiple lounge spaces and large sundecks.

That gives guests plenty of opportunities to spend time together while also having somewhere to relax.

You can join the group for a meal, enjoy a drink at the bar, spend time on the sundeck or simply find your own space for a while.

You're travelling with people without having to be surrounded by people every minute of the day.

What Can You Expect During the Week?

There isn't one type of day on a Roam Sailing Croatia Sail Tour.

Some days are about exploring. Some are about swimming and being on the water.

Some involve activities or discovering a new destination. And sometimes the best thing you can do is find a comfortable spot on deck and do absolutely nothing.

Food is also an important part of the experience, with an onboard chef preparing meals during the week and opportunities to experience local restaurants when you're ashore.

Evenings can be completely different from one day to the next. You might explore a destination, enjoy dinner with the group, have a few drinks or head out to experience the nightlife.

Free time matters too.

We don't believe a great Croatia sailing holiday means scheduling every minute. Part of being on holiday is having the freedom to decide how you want to spend your time.

Why Was Roam Sailing Created?

Roam Sailing was created after founder Benny Madden saw a gap in the Croatia tour market.

Benny first travelled to Croatia at 21 and later returned to work as a tour guide. Over the years, he gained first-hand experience of the Croatian coast and the places travellers wanted to see.

He also saw something missing.

There were plenty of options for travellers looking for a heavily party-focused experience, as well as more traditional group tours. But there was less choice for people who wanted something in between.

People who wanted to meet people.

People who wanted adventure.

People who wanted to enjoy nightlife.

But who also wanted to relax, explore Croatia, experience the culture and actually remember their holiday.

Roam Sailing was created to fill that gap.

Today, that philosophy remains at the centre of the experience.

A Different Way to Experience Croatia

A Croatia sailing holiday gives you the opportunity to experience the country from a completely different perspective.

You can swim in the Adriatic, explore a historic island town during the day, share a meal with people you've only just met and watch the sunset from the deck.

You can enjoy a night out in Hvar without feeling like you have to party every night of the week.

You can spend an afternoon doing absolutely nothing.

And over eight days, you can experience several destinations along the Dalmatian Coast rather than spending your entire holiday in one place.

That's what Roam Sailing is about.

Our Croatia Sail Tours are built for people who want more from their time in Croatia — more places, more experiences, more freedom and more opportunities to meet people from around the world.

If you're looking for a Croatia sailing tour that combines adventure, relaxation, culture, free time, nightlife and a genuinely social experience, explore our Croatia Sail Tours and see what a week on the Adriatic with Roam Sailing could look like.
